Passion

I finished my conversation with Zharvis and hopped in the shower. I was a little on the tired side, but I had to talk to my father because he said he wanted to talk to me. After I finished my shower and got dressed, I went downstairs to my dad's den. He was down there smoking and drinking. That was one of the things I loved about my dad. He wasn't so uptight like people thought he was. People looked at my dad and swore he was this uptight guy that didn't know how to live life.

“Hey, daddy. You wanted to talk to me?” I asked, walking over to one of the couches in his den.

He had a wet bar in the back of the room with all kinds of name-brand liquor. There were a bunch of paintings that consisted of African American art. My dad had this place set up nice. Another thing my dad was good at was interior design.

“So, how did your first day of work go?” my dad asked, taking a sip of his cognac.

That was his favorite thing to drink. Whenever you saw my dad drinking something that was the only thing he had in his cup.

“It was okay. I can't complain.” I shrugged.

Since it was my first day in the office, I really didn't do much but assist David with the case that he had been working on.

“That’s it, just okay?” my dad asked, lifting his eyebrow.

I knew he expected me to do more, but it was going to take time for that. You couldn't just walk into someone's firm and just start working. The person had to feel you out first before they trusted you to do anything.

“Yeah, it was my first day, so the action hasn't started yet,” I replied.

“Okay, well, have you talked to Thug any today?”

“Yeah, I talked to him earlier, why?” I figured he had a reason for wanting to talk to me.

“Your mom said she saw the two of you earlier, and it looked a bit heated.” He shrugged taking a sip of his drink again.

“Everything is cool between us, and we didn't have a heated conversation.” I shook my head.

My mom was bugging. I didn’t know what the hell she was talking about. When Zharvis and I saw each other, it was cordial.

“Oh, well. I hope there is nothing going on with you two because y'all have been friends for years.”

I just nodded my head. That was all I could do because there wasn't much for me to say.

“Yeah, but is that all you wanted to talk to me about?” I asked, sighing.

“No. I wanted to know if you and Thug have something going on,” he replied.

“What the heck, dad?” I asked, raising my voice.

I wasn't trying to raise it, but he caught me off guard with that one.

“What? It’s just a yes or no question.” My dad smirked.

“No, we don't have anything going on.” I shook my head.

“Alright, if you say so.” He shrugged.

I didn’t know what made my dad think there was something going on between me and Zharvis, but it wasn't.
